Canseco rants on Twitter

Jose Canseco is certainly a colorful character, and I guess the fact that he was unable to ply his trade as long as he would have liked to leaves him with a lot of time on his hands, energy to burn, and ego to exhibit. It’s easy to lay into Canseco because he tends to go out of his way to become a target, but then again, maybe his agent has schooled him to the fact that there is no such thing as bad publicity–especially when you are already perceived as a villain of sorts.

However, if you want to be fair (and you give a rat’s you-know-what) you have to give the guy credit for telling the truth about his steroid use before anyone else. One of the things that I like about George Bush in retrospect is the fact that he told you exactly what he was going to do, and he did it, whether you liked it or not. His predecessor does the same things, only he pretends that he is a different kind of guy. Canseco was vilified not so much for taking steroids as he was for telling the world that All-American boy Mark McGwire took them too. Now that Big Mac has finally come clean, perhaps Jose deserves some small degree of vindication.

So now the dude is self promoting as a serious MMA fighter, and he floated the notion that he was in negotiations to fight Herschel Walker. Strikeforce denied this, and apparently, this caused Canseco to go kind of ballistic on Twitter, challenging his real or imagined “jealous” detractors to “shut him the *** up.”

Yawn…what can I say, it’s a slow sports news day.
