In the battle of Texas, the San Antonio Spurs outlasted Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks last night to take their best of seven series four games to two and advance to the Western Conference semifinals that will begin on Monday night.

The location of that first game was decided last night as well, as the Phoenix Suns earned the right to host the game by disposing of the Portland Trailblazers by a score of 99-90 in Portland. Jason Richardson led the Suns with 28 points as he continued his strong playoff performance.

“Everybody knows what Steve can do, and everybody knows what Amare can do. I’m just trying to be that wild card, that third scorer, and help us get wins and try to go deep into the playoffs,” said Richardson.

Dallas was the second seed and San Antonio the seventh, but they lost in the first round for the third time in four years. Dallas ousted the Spurs in the first round a year ago, so this was payback time for San Antonio.

“Going into the playoffs as a No. 2 seed, it is all we could have wanted. We just happened to see a tough No. 7 seed that got rolling at the right time,” observed Nowitzki.

The Suns/Spurs series should be a good one, and we’ll get to see if Steve Nash can get by Tim Duncan when it really counts and get to the Western Conference Finals.

The city of Los Angeles, California, is famous for many things, and it is without question one of the most interesting and vibrant metropolitan areas not just in the United States, but in the entire world. L.A. offers seminal attractions like Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm, top sports teams like the Lakers, Angels and Dodgers, and all of the sun and surf of the famous SoCal beaches. All of these dimensions help to make Los Angeles what it is, but perhaps the single biggest aspect of the city’s identity is that it is the epicenter of film making in America.

If you are a big movie buff or someone who is interested in the art of film making, you may want to consider making plans to attend the Los Angeles Film Festival that is taking place June 17-27 this year. 2010 will mark the fifteenth anniversary of the festival, and it is a huge event that attracts somewhere in the vicinity of 85,000 attendees from all around the globe. They will be featuring some 70 films across all genres, and those in attendance will also be treated to a host of additional special events.

This is the place to be if you are able to get to L.A. in June, and individual tickets and festival passes are now available to the public. To purchase your passes or simply learn more about the Los Angeles Film Festival, click the link below.

Time does indeed fly, and it is almost hard to believe that the first Saturday in May is already upon us and that means one thing to sports fans: the Kentucky Derby. The “most exciting two minutes in sports” will take place this Saturday at Churchill Downs in Louisville, and the post position draws have taken place. The Bob Baffert trained colt Lookin’ At Luck has been installed as the early favorite at 3-1, but he has drawn the #1 post position. In a 20 horse field, the inside post is not considered to be a good one, but one of the horse’s owners, Mike Pegram, expressed confidence in his charge and its rider, Garret Gomez.

“If there’s a horse that can overcome that spot, it’s Lucky. I don’t want to sound overconfident, but we got the best jockey in the country and he knows what his responsibilities are,” said Pergram.

Here is the field for the 2010 Kentucky Derby in post position order along with the morning line odds.

1.) Lookin At Lucky, 3-1
2.) Ice Box, 10-1
3.) Noble’s Promise, 12-1
4.) Super Saver, 15-1
5.) Line of David, 30-1
6.) Stately Victor, 30-1
7.) American Lion, 30-1
8.) Dean’s Kitten, 50-1
9.) Make Music for Me, 50-1
10.) Paddy O’Prado, 20-1
11.) Devil May Care, 10-1
12.) Conveyance, 12-1
13.) Jackson Bend, 15-1
14.) Mission Impazible, 20-1
15.) Discreetly Mine, 30-1
16.) Awesome Act, 10-1
17.) Dublin, 12-1
18.) Backtalk, 50-1
19.) Homeboykris, 50-1
20.) Sidney’s Candy, 5-1

There was a time when creating a web presence was something that was reserved for the technologically savvy among us (sometimes referred to as computer geeks), but those very geeks have actually made it simple for the rest of us to participate in the ongoing dialogue on the Internet. Anyone can create a blog these days using intuitive platforms like Blogger and WordPress, and they serve a number of purposes. You may just want to express yourself in general, or you might want to devote your blog to a particular interest, like politics, sports, cooking, or whatever floats your boat.

Sometimes when somebody tells you that something is easy to do, you think, yeah, it’s easy for you, but it may not be so easy for me. When it comes to blogging, it truly is easy for anyone who regularly uses a computer, and the basics can be taught in a couple of minutes. This video demonstrates in the simplest possible terms just how effortless it is to create a blog using Blogger, and these days everyone should consider blogging. Aside from providing a forum for you to share your thoughts with anyone who may happen by, it is also a place where your friends and family can visit to see that is going on in your life if you choose to maintain a general, personal or family blog.

Check out the video and head over to Blogger and get started sharing your brilliant insights with the rest of us here in cyberspace!

There is definitely a seasonal aspect to shopping, cooking, and eating, and when the weather heats up people generally tend toward somewhat lighter dishes. In this modern era where everyone in the household is working or going to school, time becomes a factor, so in the warmer months we look for some lighter recipes that are scrumptious, but relatively quick and easy to prepare. One such dish is Shrimp Scampi, and though it is truly delicious, it is something that can be whipped up with ingredients that most of us have laying around the kitchen most of the time (minus the shrimp, of course).

To make Shrimp Scampi, all you need is the shrimp, some butter, garlic, green onions, white wine, lemon juice, parsley, and some salt and pepper. You can of course concoct your own variations, and if you like to bring the heat like I do, you can add some jalapeño or even habanero peppers to turn it up a notch. To check out a simple recipe for this delectable seafood treat, simply click the link below and enjoy!

Sports fans can sometimes take certain productive players for granted and moan about their failures rather than celebrating their successes, and the fans in Philadelphia may be the toughest anywhere in this regard. There are those in Philly who decry Ryan Howard’s high strikeout totals and sometimes less than stellar defense, but the reality is that the man is one of the top two or three run producers in the game of baseball. Whether the fans appreciate him or not, the management has certainly shown their respect by extending Howard’s contract for five years at a price of $125 million, which is the second highest salary in baseball behind only Alex Rodriguez.

“I tell you what, it’s a great feeling to have that security and know where you’re going to be. I feel what I’ve been doing over the last couple of years, I feel pretty confident that down the road, I’ll be right where I want to be and still doing the same things,” said Howard.

Howard has been an everyday player since 2006, and he has hit at least 45 home runs and driven in at least 136 runs in each of those four seasons. He has led the Phillies to the National League East title in each of the last three years, including back to back World Series appearances and a championship in 2008. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel is happy to have his slugger in the fold for the foreseeable future.

“This is absolutely great. We signed Ryan Howard quite a few years ago and that means we’re keeping him. He’s one of our guys, he is a Phillie. It’s big for our team. That’s what you set out for. He’s very worthy of it. He is a great player and he is going to continue to be a great player for a while. Everything about it’s good

Few musicians have the type of staying power that Santana has displayed over the years, and his Latin-infused brand of rock fusion sounds as fresh today as ever. Carlos will be 63 years old in July, and he is not slowing down with a number of tour dates on the schedule.

Santana is a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and he has won an astounding ten Grammys while establishing himself as one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time. His performance at Woodstock is legendary, and he wowed the music industry some 30 years later with the release of the hugely popular Supernatural album in 1999. If you have never seen Carlos Santana live, you are in for a treat if you can find the time to take in one of his shows in 2010. Check out the spring and summer dates below.

Everyone likes to talk about Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers when it comes to the Eastern Conference of the NBA, and they do present a formidable obstacle to anyone seeking a berth in this year’s NBA Finals. However, if they are going to get there, they are going to have to do something that they could not do a year ago: beat the Orlando Magic.

The Magic made short order of the Charlotte Bobcats in the first round, finishing them off with a 99-90 victory in Charlotte on Monday in what may very well be Larry Brown’s last game as the Bobcats coach. Orlando swept Charlotte in four games, and their balanced attack is hitting on all cylinders. Even with Dwight Howard saddled with foul trouble throughout much of the series, the Magic didn’t skip a beat in dispatching of Charlotte.

“If you would have told me that he would have averaged well under 30 minutes for the series and we would sweep, I would have said you’re crazy. I think it’s a testament to our other guys,” said Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy.

The Magic will face the winner of the Atlanta-Milwaukee series that is currently tied at two games apiece, while Charlotte will await the news on whether or not Brown is bolting to Philadelphia as is being widely reported.

With each passing day we are getting deeper into the spring, and summertime is right around the corner. That equates to barbecue time for many of us, so you can expect to see a number of barbecue recipes posted here over the next few months, and hopefully we will give you some ideas that will spice up your grilling menu this year.

When I was a kid growing up in New Jersey, there was a particular legendary barbecue joint called Nick’s. Now I know that Jersey isn’t exactly famous for its barbecued foods, but Nick’s was something special. They did have ribs, but their true specialty was rotisserie chicken that was simply heaven on earth. Since few of us have a rotisserie, the beer can barbecued chicken method provides a similar type of effect, allowing the juices to drip off the bird as it cooks.

We found an excellent recipe for beer can chicken at BarbecueBible.com, and we would like to share it with you today. What puts it over the top is the all-purpose barbecue rub that you simply have to try. Click the link below, get yourself some beer for your soul as well as for the chicken, grab a nice fresh chicken or two and wow your guests at your next barbecue.
