NCAA hoops Sweet 16 set

The action was hot and heavy last week, with 64 teams scratching and clawing for a chance to stay alive to play another day in the 2010 NCCA Tournament. There were some big upsets, with #2 seed Villanova falling to St. Mary’s and overall top seed Kansas coming up short against upstart Northern Iowa. But three of the four #1 seeded teams, Duke, Syracuse, and Kentucky were able to advance to the round of sixteen, and action is set to continue on Thursday.

You have to feel good for the group from Northern Iowa, who pulled off the rare David beats Goliath routine with a roster devoid of anyone who would have been heavily recruited by the Kansas team that they beat when it counted the most.

“They’re regular guys,” Northern Iowa coach Ben Jacobson is quoted as saying. “There’s no difference between them and the person sitting next to them in class tomorrow. Our players work hard and represent the school in the right way. I think our fans appreciate that.”
