Protests rage in Greece
The Greek economic collapse, which came about due to a national debt that exceeds the gross domestic product, is resulting it violent protests in the streets. Members of labor unions have walked off the job as their wages are being rolled back and pensions frozen while taxes are being increased along with the retirement age.
The strikes have impacted Greece across the board; TV and radio journalists along with bank employees, fire fighters, and some law enforcement officers are joining in the strikes. Protesters are setting fires, breaking windows, throwing Molotav cocktails while chanting and pounding on drums as they clash with police.
It is worthwhile to note that the United States debt is set to exceed our GDP as well. Before the unnecessary wars that we have voluntarily engaged in, we were enjoying a record federal budget surplus.
