Save money on recreation

There is no denying the fact that the cost of recreation has been skyrocketing over the years, and the reasons for that have everything to do with corporate control. Ticketmaster is an entity that stands in between the people who want to see an event, and the people who are promoting and providing it. Their cut makes it impossible for the entertainers to keep their tickets in a range that allows people of modest means to go and see them, even if they care about this and want to control their own pricing. The band Pearl Jam challenged this system in the nineties, and the jam band String Cheese Incident challenged the Ticketmaster monopoly more recently, but nothing changes when the foxes guard the hen house.

So what can you do about it when you want to have some fun but you’re short on cash? We have all heard the saying “the best things in life are free,” and there is a whole lot of truth in it. We have to face reality. Half of the people in America live paycheck to paycheck, so how can you suddenly allocate a hundred dollars to go to a major concert or a professional sporting event? The quick answer would be by using a credit card, but where does that eventually lead?

The key to enjoying your free time and not letting lack of disposable income get you down is to do fun things that are free, or better put, activities that are free once you buy the initial supplies that you need. Things like cycling, hiking, fishing, skating, picnicking, playing sports of all kinds, going to many of our beaches, playing indoor games, playing music for yourself and your friends, and many more activities that you can think of are all free. Plus, you get to engage in these types of pastimes actively rather than sitting back watching someone else participate while paying a huge price to do it. When you learn to enjoy the things in life that are free, you become more free in your own right.
