Why fear Iran?

When you see the way that the corporate controlled media keeps pounding away at Iran’s “nuclear program,” you see an example of Orwellian propaganda at its finest. The reality is that Iran is nowhere near the level of uranium enrichment that is necessary to develop a nuclear weapon. And even of they did, finding a way to deliver it to America would be another matter. This is not about American security–it is about something else entirely, and under the Constitution our military is a defensive force meant to respond to enemy threats against our soil.

Despite what we see going on in the Middle East, America has no constitutional power to fight foreign wars of aggression. Nobody really knows who planned the 911 attacks, and when you examine who benefited from it the most, it is certainly not any so-called “terrorist” organization. It is the neo-cons who planned an invasion of Iraq years before, knowing that it would take an event similar to what turned out to be 911 to gather public support for such an action. And by now the fact that nobody from Iraq had anything to do with 911 seems to be all but forgotten throughout much of the public consciousness.

Iran is a sovereign nation, and they have every right to exist and conduct their affairs as they see fit. As Americans, we have very significant domestic problems with massive unemployment and underemployment, runaway debt, and a relentless and ongoing assault on our constitutional freedoms from within. Iran is 7,300 miles from our country, and they have made no threats toward us. Not only do we not have the resources to engage in military action against Iran, we have no reason to do so. The fact is that Iran is not close to obtaining nuclear weapons, but if they were, who could blame them? Israel has taken every square inch of Palestinian land that they possible could, and they continue to build outward, so why wouldn’t other countries in the region seek some balance via deterrent nuclear capabilities, just like Israel has done?

America has no pretext or legal foundation to support military action in Iran. If any country that “harbors” citizens who are opposed to the American wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the Israeli treatment of the Palestinians is a “terrorist state,” then we are at war with 100% of the nations in the world, including our own.
